Lorde has announced the dates for her international Ultrasound world tour - and New Zealand isn't on the list.

The upcoming tour will kick off in September in North America, Europe, and the UK, and features support from Blood Orange, the Japanese House, Nilüfer Yana, Chanel Beads, Empress Of, Jim-E Stack and Oklou appearing on select dates.

The Ultrasound world tour comes after the Auckland-born singer announced her fourth album, Virgin, slated for release June 27.

In an email to her fans, Lorde wrote that the tour would be a collaboration.

"Every show I play is a collaboration between you and me. We meet in a room and we make music together, our bodies and the machines in search of something bigger together. 12 years of meeting up and making sound that’s just for us.

"Since last time I’ve been stripping away unnecessary layers, finding us more room to move. I think that Ultrasound could be our masterpiece."

In April Lorde debuted 'What Was That'- her first new track from Virgin - with an impromptu live performance at Washington Square Park in New York.

The 28-year-old star had earlier teased her first single since the 2021 album Solar Power in a series of cryptic posts on social platforms, including TikTok and Instagram.

On Monday, Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich O'Connor, returned to the Met Gala after a four year absence from the event.

In an interview with Emma Chamberlain on the red carpet, Lorde explained that her outfit was a hint at the contents of Virgin portraying how she feels “gender-wise.”

She wore a custom ensemble by designer Thom Browne - an icy grey corseted skirt and backless floating bra top, with a matching suit jacket and silver jewellery.

“It’s something of an Easter egg,” the singer told Chamberlain.

“All will be revealed. I just love the open back. To me it represents where I’m at gender-wise. I feel like a man and a woman, you know?”
